Linda Hiwot’s canvas paintings and hand drawn prints are frequently collaged and constructed. She is noted for her use of shape and composition, and she has developed a courageous, personal idiom. A key component of Linda’s work is her use of color and how this manifests in unusual relationships.

While her palette emphasizes primary colors and strong hues, the actual color harmony is sometimes startling. Her subject is autobiographical, mystical and mythical. She operates in the world of imaginary tropical foliage. Her work applies itself to the realm of lush, natural, unspoiled worlds of nature.

Linda is a graduate of Pratt Institute and New York University. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships. Her work is in local, national, international and public collections. Linda is also an educator in the NYC Board of Education school system.

Linda’s work will be featured in the upcoming show “Essentially Earth” at The Skylight Gallery at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Center from 7/6 thru 8/22/2013
